Insurance

Health Insurance can be a significant consideration when seeking treatment for medical issues. Many insurance companies cover visits to naturopathic doctors, but that varies from company to company. Some insurance plans offer out of network benefits, and will reimburse you at least partially for expenses incurred for exam and office visits.
In the state of NH, private insurance plans that are purchased on the open market are required by law to contract with Naturopathic Doctors. So far, the only insurance companies to comply with this law are Cigna and Harvard Pilgrim. Currently, all patients with Cigna are covered under their insurance. With Harvard Pilgrim, only plans purchased on the open market and plans that have specifically chosen to cover naturopathic services are covered. With Harvard Pilgrim, we may need to confirm your eligibility for coverage prior to your visit.
Also, if your insurance provides coverage for out of network providers such as a PPO, you may be able to get reimbursed for office appointment fees. HMO's usually do not qualify for reimbursement from out of network providers. The amount of reimbursement will vary depending upon your deductible and other get details of your contract. Human Nature Natural Medicine will provide you with a completed "Superbill" with the necessary insurance codes for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Currently Human Nature Natural Health contracts with Harvard Pilgrim for both PPOs and HMOs, however in the case of HMOs, you will need to obtain a referral prior to seeing the doctor. We contract with United Healthcare for acupuncture services. Since insurance coverage varies so much from company to company, we encourage patients to review their policy so there are no hidden surprises that might occur. We also encourage you to discuss your coverage with your insurance company representative prior to treatment.
We work directly with Harvard Pilgrim, however our comprehensive new patient exam is not a covered service. That said, we will submit for your office visits and your re exams. If your plan is an HMO, you will need to get a referral from your HP-appointed PCP; Dr. Bier is considered a specialist, however if your policy is a PPO policy, no referral is necessary.
